Council Recap: Bond Rating Upgrade & New Trail Proposed

Today, I'm diving into the August 19 Middletown Township Council meeting.

Middletown Township received an upgrade in its S&P municipal bond rating.

Acting Township Manager Vincent M. Visoskas said it's "an endorsement of our strong tax base and our conservative budgeting philosophy. All in all, it's expected to give us around $144,000 in savings when we do refinancing. That's a great achievement for the township."

S&P Global announced the upgrade as well, saying "the stable outlook reflects our expectation that Middletown's fund balance will remain healthy over the next few years, supported by the predictable main revenue source of property taxes."

A representative from Friends of Turks Head Trail spoke about a proposed trail project that would connect West Chester Borough to Middletown.

The group claims they have support from SEPTA and will apply for a Local Share Account grant to conduct a feasibility survey. You can find more information on page 7 of the document here. They've been working on this project since at least summer of 2021.

A new sports program for toddlers is coming this fall.

Middletown Township MultiSport Tots is coming to Roosevelt Community Center this fall. It offers a variety of sports for kids ages 2-4, and runs Saturday mornings from September 19 through October 24. A Facebook post with more info is located here.

Other Notes

The Middletown Food Truck Festival will take place on Thursday, September 17, from 4-8pm at Longview Park. Five food trucks are planned, along with kids' activities and music.
