Council Recap: Path Set to K-1 Center Vote
"Every person that wants to speak will be allowed to speak. It'll be a marathon session, but everyone will speak."
Today, I'm diving into the September 16th Middletown Township Council meeting.
The school district will present its K-1 Center application to Council on Wednesday, October 7th.
Council Chair Christopher Stump said he anticipated a second session and potential vote date of Wednesday, October 21st. The location of these meetings is still to be determined.
Stump also said multiple people have complained to council about the abbreviated public comment at the Planning Commission meetings. He added "every person that wants to speak will be allowed to speak. We're not going to have a cutoff. It'll be a marathon session, but everyone will speak."
Middletown Free Library's Director delivered a quarterly update.
Library Director Derek Lloyd reported that overall visits and program attendance increased compared to last summer. He said the new playground has helped drive more families into the building.
Additionally, this Saturday, September 26th, MFL will host all of these events:
- Vaccination clinic in partnership with Giant pharmacy (10am)
- Friends of the Library Book Sale
- Mini Photo Sessions in the Library (10am - 1pm)
- Board Game Auction (10am - 4pm)
Lastly, the MFL Craft Beer Fest will take place on Thursday, October 8th from 6pm to 9pm at the library. Tickets are on sale here.
The Township announced two new grants.
Middletown will receive $267,690 to replace the windows at the older portion of the Roosevelt Community Center. Additionally, the Township Sewer Authority received $650,000 for a new pump station and sanitary sewer rehab work.
The Environmental Advisory Council announced two events.
The Invasive Plant Control Workshop will take place on Tuesday, September 22nd at 6:30pm at Roosevelt Community Center. It will be led by a Delaware County Master Gardener.
World Migratory Bird Day Bird Walk will take place Sunday, October 4th, from 9am to 11am at Longview Park. You can find more on both events here.
The Township passed Ordinance 874, which refinanced the 2019 bonds.
Previously, this was supposed to save $115,000, but is now closer to $85,000 in savings due to bond market volatility. Council also approved the capital projects fund I covered here. No objections were raised by the public.
Friends of Turks Head Trail returned with updates on the proposed greenway.
The group, who previously spoke at Council, has approval from West Chester's Business Improvement District Director to fully fund a feasibility survey. They're proposing a 9.29-mile trail starting in Chester County and ending at the south side of the Wawa train station.
