I'm writing these posts to better understand what's happening in Middletown. Today, I'm diving into the Wednesday, July 1 Middletown Township Council Meeting.

After rejecting the initial round of bids for Lenni Park improvements, Council rebid the project and found a less expensive option.

They will move forward with improvements to the softball field and facilities. Additionally, the project will bring a handicap-accessible trail to reach the field and a new stormwater basin to help manage runoff. Future plans include a basketball court replacement (for multiple sports), expanded parking, and a paved accessible trail loop through the park.

Council dedicated a new podium in honor of the 250th anniversary of the United States of America and 340th anniversary of Middletown Township.

According to a London Grove Monthly Meeting Facebook post, it was "crafted from wood of the historic Penn Oak that stood for more than 300 years." The tree it was built from predates William Penn himself and fell in 2023. It was crafted by Bok Read and Middletown Finance Director Vince Visoskas.

The search for the next Township Manager begins.

Council approved an agreement with The Meyner Center for the Study of State and Local Government at Lafayette College to assist in the search for the next Township Manager. This was the process they used to find the outgoing manager, John McMullan.

Other Notes

Council authorized a purchase agreement for a new fire tower ladder truck for Rocky Run Fire Company. The current ladder truck is nearing its service life expectancy, and the acquisition process takes about three years. There's $2.4 million approved for this purchase, including padding to account for inflation... Council officially appointed members of the Senior Citizen Advisory Committee. This committee existed in the late 1990s and early 2000s to serve as the voice of seniors in Middletown Township. Only five of the seven seats are filled, so reach out to a council member here to sign up.

As always, you can find a recording of the entire meeting here:
